Welcome to Greeley Youth Lacrosse, the fastest game in town!

“Greeley Youth Lacrosse is a privately funded youth lacrosse organization whose mission is to provide girls and boys youth lacrosse programs that inspire participation while protecting the integrity of the game and to provide the New Castle community with the opportunity to participate in the game of lacrosse.  We strive to help players develop their skills in a safe and fun environment while placing higher value on sportsmanship and learning, rather than solely on winning.  Through positive and effective leadership, we hope to provide every child the opportunity to discover, learn, participate and develop a love and passion for the game of Lacrosse.”

Scholarship Opportunity
by posted 01/23/2010

Dear CONNY Members-including GYL:                                                January 2010

At its January 12th meeting, the CONNY Board of Directors unanimously approved a marketing agreement with Millon Lacrosse Camps. In exchange for a banner posting on the CONNY website, Millon Camps has provided CONNY with four scholarships to any of its 2010 summer lacrosse camps.

Mark Millon offers what is arguably the best teaching camp available in the sport. One of the biggest names in lacrosse today, Mark is on site at every camp approximately 90% of the time, ensuring that every kid comes out with a great experience. The CONNY Board is convinced that we have alignined ourselves with someone who cares about the sport and the experience of young players as much as we do.

The scholarship will cover camp fees and boarding (where applicable). Most Millon Camps are overnight/boarding camps, and all camps accept players in age groups from 9 to 17 years. These age groups are broken down into PeeWee, JV, and Varsity divisions to be sure that campers are playing with players of the same level. CONNY will award the scholarships to any player currently between 9 and 15 years old who played on a CONNY team in the spring of 2010. Transportation and incidental fees are the responsibility of the scholarship winner.

Millon Lacrosse Camp locations are at:
  • Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio from June 13 - June 17
  • Stony Brook University on Long Island from June 28 - July 2
  • SUNY Farmingdale on Long Island from July 5 - July 9
  • SUNY Farmingdale on Long Island from July 19 - July 23
  • At the Williston-Northampton School in Easthampton, MA from July 13 - July 17
  • At the Boys Latin School  in Baltimore, MD from July 12 - July 16
  • At the George School in Newtown, PA from August 1 - August 5
CONNY has created a committee to review applications from active CONNY players who would be interested in receiving one of these scholarships.
Interested players should write a 300 word (or fewer) essay on why they feel they deserve this award - and what CONNY lacrosse has meant to them. The committee will review all submissions and award the scholarships to four CONNY players deemed to be most deserving of the awards.

Requirements for submissions are as follows:
  • Essay of 300 words or less - typewritten - due via email to by March 15
  • Include player/applicant name
  • Include US Lacrosse Membership number
  • Include the CONNY program with which the player is affiliated
  • Include date of birth
Any questions, please contact David Baum at

Recommended Helmet Design
by posted 01/09/2010

As we prepare for the new Spring Season 2010, the Coaches of Greeley Youth Lacrosse would like to remind parents that we are transitioning to the all blue helmet with orange visor and the large letter G (for Greeley) sticker on each side, in orange. The two local sports stores sell the recommended helmet. If your sons helmet fits him well, no need to purchase a new one, but if you are in the market to replace his helmet because he has grown out of it, please consider the blue helmet with orange visor. In addition, if you could take a moment to ensure his elbow pads, shoulder pads, gloves, cup(required) and mouth piece still fit well, we would appreciate it! For the boys in U11 & U9, please write your sons name on a white piece of athletic tape and place it above the front visor so Coaches can more easily identify who is who!
Thanks again!

Registration is Open for 2009-2010 Lacrosse Programs
by posted 10/08/2009

Registration for the 2009-2010 Chappaqua Lacrosse programs is now open online at www.newcastlelacrosse.com for girls and boys in grades K-8 who live in New Castle.  Prior experience is not required.  Please note that we need volunteers to assist on and off the field.

Girls & Boys Grades K-2:

Girls:

K girls will meet for one hour each week.  The first half of the time will be spent on skills and the second half will be spent playing games. No equipment other than a stick is required to play.  NCLA will provide a warrior mini stick and soft mini warrior lacrosse balls will be used.

1st grade and 2nd grade girls will be grouped together (depending on the number of players) and divided into equal teams.  Games will be played locally against each other, rather than travel to other towns.

Boys:  The boys in this age group will be separated by grade and will play games against each other locally rather than travel to other towns.

K boys will meet for one hour each week.  The first half of the time will be spent on skills and the second half will be spent playing games.  No equipment other than a stick and gloves will be required.  NCLA will provide a warrior mini stick and soft mini warrior lacrosse balls will be used.

1st grade boys will begin the season by meeting for one hour each week and follow the K format described above.  Depending on several factors, including the number of participants and coaches, and available field space, the 1st grade boys may follow the 2nd grade format described below toward the end of the spring season.  Full equipment, including cleats, will be required.  IF YOU ARE PURCHASING A NEW HELMET, PLEASE CONSIDER THE BLUE HELMET WITH ORANGE VISOR.

2nd grade boys will meet twice each week.  Each session will last approximately one hour.  One session will consist of a group practice.  The other session will be a game.  Full equipment, including cleats, will be required.

Note:  The K-2 girls and boys programs will begin in the spring.  The size and number of teams will be determined once registration is complete and we have sufficient volunteers.  If you wish to volunteer, please notify Michael Morgan or Eric Klein (contact info. below).

These programs are similar to baseball and soccer for these age groups.

Girls:

The girls in grades 3-8 will continue to be organized with grade-based travel teams (3/4, 5/6, 7/8), consistent with all of the other local town programs.  We expect to offer some winter clinics for girls this season and to focus on more skill development and competitive play with our spring program as interest and participation for girls lacrosse grows in the area.  Announcements regarding winter clinics will be made to those girls that have registered on our website (there is no additional fee for these clinics).

Boys:

Last year we made several changes to the boys’ format for grades 4-8.  This year we will include 3rd grade boys.

Winter Practices:

Practices will be held throughout the winter at the Armonk Indoor Facility.  Boys in grades 3 – 8 should participate in these winter practices (there is no additional fee for these practice sessions).  The winter practices will be held on Saturday morning from 8am – 10am beginning in November and running though March.  A Friday night session will be added in January and run through March.  We recognize that lacrosse is not a winter sport and so each age group will not practice every week.  A winter practice schedule for each age group will be distributed shortly to those players that are registered.

Spring Teams:

Boys in Grades 3 - 8 will placed on one of the following teams:

U9 (players under age 9 on December 31).  These teams will practice 2-3 times each week and play one or two games each week.  Players will be evaluated before the beginning of the season and divided into equal teams.

U11 (players under age 11 on December 31), U13 (players under age 13 on December 31), U15 (players under age 15 on December 31, but not in high school).  These teams will practice 2-3 times each week and play one or two games each week.  Tryouts/evaluations will take place in the early spring.  The players will also be evaluated through out the winter at the Armonk Indoor practices.  The teams will be organized based on age, grade and ability.  All players will be assigned to a team.  No one will be denied the opportunity to play lacrosse.

Each level (U11/U13/U15) will have one team that is designed for boys who have decided to make lacrosse their primary spring sport.  This does not mean that boys on these teams cannot play other sports in the spring; it only means that a lacrosse game or practice will not be missed in the event of a conflict.  Teams will also be formed for players that have other priorities in the spring.  These teams will generally have more players on their roster so games will not have to be forfeited and practices will be meaningful in the event of conflicts.

Note:

It is important that registration be completed shortly, so that we can organize our teams and secure sufficient field space and organize practice and game schedules.
