posted 10/08/2009 Registration for the 2009-2010 Chappaqua Lacrosse programs is now open online at www.newcastlelacrosse.com for girls and boys in grades K-8 who live in New Castle. Prior experience is not required. Please note that we need volunteers to assist on and off the field.
Girls & Boys Grades K-2:
Girls:
K girls will meet for one hour each week. The first half of the time will be spent on skills and the second half will be spent playing games. No equipment other than a stick is required to play. NCLA will provide a warrior mini stick and soft mini warrior lacrosse balls will be used.
1st grade and 2nd grade girls will be grouped together (depending on the number of players) and divided into equal teams. Games will be played locally against each other, rather than travel to other towns.
Boys: The boys in this age group will be separated by grade and will play games against each other locally rather than travel to other towns.
K boys will meet for one hour each week. The first half of the time will be spent on skills and the second half will be spent playing games. No equipment other than a stick and gloves will be required. NCLA will provide a warrior mini stick and soft mini warrior lacrosse balls will be used.
1st grade boys will begin the season by meeting for one hour each week and follow the K format described above. Depending on several factors, including the number of participants and coaches, and available field space, the 1st grade boys may follow the 2nd grade format described below toward the end of the spring season. Full equipment, including cleats, will be required. IF YOU ARE PURCHASING A NEW HELMET, PLEASE CONSIDER THE BLUE HELMET WITH ORANGE VISOR.
2nd grade boys will meet twice each week. Each session will last approximately one hour. One session will consist of a group practice. The other session will be a game. Full equipment, including cleats, will be required.
Note: The K-2 girls and boys programs will begin in the spring. The size and number of teams will be determined once registration is complete and we have sufficient volunteers. If you wish to volunteer, please notify Michael Morgan or Eric Klein (contact info. below).
These programs are similar to baseball and soccer for these age groups.
Girls:
The girls in grades 3-8 will continue to be organized with grade-based travel teams (3/4, 5/6, 7/8), consistent with all of the other local town programs. We expect to offer some winter clinics for girls this season and to focus on more skill development and competitive play with our spring program as interest and participation for girls lacrosse grows in the area. Announcements regarding winter clinics will be made to those girls that have registered on our website (there is no additional fee for these clinics).
Boys:
Last year we made several changes to the boys’ format for grades 4-8. This year we will include 3rd grade boys.
Winter Practices:
Practices will be held throughout the winter at the Armonk Indoor Facility. Boys in grades 3 – 8 should participate in these winter practices (there is no additional fee for these practice sessions). The winter practices will be held on Saturday morning from 8am – 10am beginning in November and running though March. A Friday night session will be added in January and run through March. We recognize that lacrosse is not a winter sport and so each age group will not practice every week. A winter practice schedule for each age group will be distributed shortly to those players that are registered.
Spring Teams:
Boys in Grades 3 - 8 will placed on one of the following teams:
U9 (players under age 9 on December 31). These teams will practice 2-3 times each week and play one or two games each week. Players will be evaluated before the beginning of the season and divided into equal teams.
U11 (players under age 11 on December 31), U13 (players under age 13 on December 31), U15 (players under age 15 on December 31, but not in high school). These teams will practice 2-3 times each week and play one or two games each week. Tryouts/evaluations will take place in the early spring. The players will also be evaluated through out the winter at the Armonk Indoor practices. The teams will be organized based on age, grade and ability. All players will be assigned to a team. No one will be denied the opportunity to play lacrosse.
Each level (U11/U13/U15) will have one team that is designed for boys who have decided to make lacrosse their primary spring sport. This does not mean that boys on these teams cannot play other sports in the spring; it only means that a lacrosse game or practice will not be missed in the event of a conflict. Teams will also be formed for players that have other priorities in the spring. These teams will generally have more players on their roster so games will not have to be forfeited and practices will be meaningful in the event of conflicts.
Note:
It is important that registration be completed shortly, so that we can organize our teams and secure sufficient field space and organize practice and game schedules.
